This beautiful English Stuart Crystal ring was made in the latter part of the 1600s. It has a lovely round chunky faceted rock crystal in a rub-over collet setting in silver over pale rosy foil. Under the crystal are fine scrolled gold cyphers which look like entwined C’s - which Charles II used on coins and the like. I don’t know if the cyphers in this ring represent loyalty to Charles II or if – perhaps more likely - the ring is a love token showing the cyphers of the giver, receiver, or both. It is certainly priced as the latter. The cyphers sit on a bed of either woven hair or a piece of cloth and are surrounded by scrolling gold wirework. The gold shank has a flowing floral/foliate design and is approximately a size 7. (# 192324)
